What is Salsa?
A Description of Salsa Dancing
Think of salsa as being danced by stepping on 3 consecutive beats of music and then pausing for 1 beat, and then repeating. The salsa step pattern can be thought of as rock step, together; rock step, together. Our dance teachers count salsa as quick, quick, slow; quick, quick, slow. Each quick count uses one beat of music, each slow count uses two beats of music. Depending on geographical location and how you hear and feel the music, salsa dancers may start on any beat of the measure. Most salsa dancers in Louisville start the dance on the first beat of the measure.
The essential character of salsa is called "Cuban motion". Cuban motion, especially the hip action, comes mainly from the alternate bending and straightening of the knees and uses hip and ribcage movement.

Everyone is a beginner at some point! Private salsa dance lessons allow you to quickly and easily learn the fundamentals of salsa dancing. You will begin by learning the elements of which all dances are comprised. Then, you will learn the basic salsa dance steps, the fundamentals of rhythm, how to lead or follow your partner, plus the core variations and turns. In just a few weeks, you will be ready for more advanced moves and salsa dancing will begin to feel more natural.
You will receive one-on-one instruction with your instructor who will give you the personal attention needed to achieve your personal goals. And as all new dancers are a little different, your private salsa dance lessons will always progress at your pace.

We believe in an easy, casual teaching approach and would love to show you how much fun learning to salsa dance can be.
We also believe that dance is for everyone. New dancers of all ages, genders, shapes, marital and social statuses are always welcome.
Learning to salsa dance was easily one of the best decisions we've ever made and we love to share this wonderful activity with people of all walks of life.
